"The competent men shall come to the fore, the laggards will go to the wall. Such an exchange puts an end to shoddy workmanship and shoddy prices. Let a man have to undo his shoddy work and make it right, and he will no longer be willing to go on making such presents to those who have plenty already and don't require more, and the public will have more confidence in the tradesmen they employ".

A.P.C.T. GRAINING EXHIBITION LECTURE EXETER 2007

Apprenticed to a local firm in 1983 I achieved my City & Guilds from James Watt College, and achieved second place in the Crown Young decorator of the year awards in 1985. I left Scotland in 1987, and continued my career in Berkshire, England, where I carried out various high Quality Decorating contracts in & around Windsor Castle. I returned to Scotland In 1990, where I started my own company in 1993. For a five year period, from 1995 to 2000, I studied at the Bill Holgate school of Graining & Marble Arts, In Lancashire England. It was during this period that I learned & perfected all my Graining, Marbling & Decorative painting skills with the help of one of the world's most renowned exponents of this craft. I granted membership of the Association of Painting Craft Teachers In 2002, and have since carried out a number of teaching workshops at Reid Kerr College in Paisley for both staff and students, and various exhibitions & demonstrations around the country, including Telford College in Edinburgh. I currently employ a workforce of six, and I am available for any traditional decorating or specialist contracts.
